Everyone has off days, there is no doubt about that, but if your Curriculum Vitae, or CV as more commonly known, does not make you look attentive and alert then who is going to invite you to interview never mind employ you?  To have the edge over your competitors your CV needs to be written with a positive slant throughout.   It needs to demonstrate your enthusiasm and achievements as well as your qualifications and potential.

It needs to have a professional curriculum vitae layout, which is focused, perhaps even a bit punchy and almost definitely, easy to read.  Your CV also needs to have “keywords” so that even the most basic search program can pick you out..  In other words to surpass the competition you need to create interest and compel the reader to look at your job application more closely.

Professional CV writing is an art in itself.  If you consider that most people only write about a dozen CVs in their whole lifetime and then consider that we have written thousands of successful CVs you will understand the difference between your experience of CV writing and ours.  Professional CV writing specialists successfully targeting positions for Senior Management, Directors, Managers, National Managers, Global Managers, Area Managers and more... we are proud to say that the majority of our clients get through to interview with their first application.  Many of our clients come back to us and say they have had several job offers and have gone with the one which has seemed to be the biggest challenge and generally has the most endearing salary.

Once the PA or Secretary has thrown out the no hopers, remember she could also be juggling loads of other jobs too - so if at a quick glance she picks up an error it will be most definitely be shredded or binned.  She may pick through the rest.  The PA or Secretary may not realise that she has selected a high impact CV, in fact a few high impact CVs may not even pass this first selection and this is generally down to one thing and one thing only and that is the presentation and the first impression.  If you do not get this right your CV may never be opened.

Recruiters generally know in their own mind exactly what they are looking for; so do ensure your CV is well tailored and meets with its needs. The slightest error in the address of your CV or in its layout and it may be thrown aside without a second glance.  Little things like the spelling of the recruiter’s name may well be enough for him or his secretary/pa to cast your CV aside.  So do ensure it is correct and consider there are often two correct ways to spell a name for example Tait and Tate, Whyte and White. Although both are correct only one is correct for that specific person.  Have you chosen the correct one?  The job market is very tough at the moment and a recruiter who is looking at 100 or more CVs will not think twice about throwing one aside if it isn’t addressed properly.  After all there are so many more people who have taken the care and effort to find out who they are addressing their CV too!  Be sure you are amongst them!

The recruiter will almost always “judge a book by its cover” so to speak.  He will be looking for a well presented CV and is hopeful the outside presentation is an indication of what’s inside.  He will almost certainly know what he is looking for and if there is any indication whatsoever in the layout or in the address of your CV that you are slovenly and untidy - your CV will not be entertained.   Ensure your CV lives up to the highest standards you can muster.  Think about your CV seriously - does it have the magic ingredient that will help it surpass the competition is it a professionally tailored document that is compelling to read?  Does your CV contain relative information?  Is it focused. Will it create the right impact by assuring the recruiter, you have the skills and experience he is looking for and you are the best choice?
